Why targeting misconceptions works

Most AP Physics 2 problems are not hard because the algebra is hard. They are hard because they are engineered to trip students into a specific wrong way of thinking. Temperature is energy per particle, not energy in total. Current is not used up by the first bulb. Lenz's law opposes the change in flux, not the flux. A grating puts red on the outside and a prism puts violet there. If you do not hold the misconception, the problem is straightforward. If you do, no amount of additional practice will help unless that specific misconception is the one being addressed.

How many practice problems are available?

1,804 items across the seven units. Each of the 46 topics has a ten-item diagnostic, every one of the 168 catalogued misconceptions has an eight-item drill, and each unit has a twenty-item cumulative MCQ exam, plus a whole-course cumulative drawn from all seven.

Where should I start?

If you have a unit test coming up, take that unit's cumulative MCQ cold to see where you stand. If you are early in the year or studying for the AP exam, run topic diagnostics for the units you have covered and let the results route you to drills.

Is this aligned to the College Board framework?

Yes. Items are anchored to the published AP Physics 2: Algebra-Based Course and Exam Description (its seven units, numbered 9 to 15 here, and their essential knowledge statements), with internal misconception codes that map onto the most-cited findings in physics education research.

How long does a practice session take?

Do I need AP Physics 1 first?

Physics 2 assumes it. Kinetic theory rests on kinematics and momentum, circuits reuse energy conservation, magnetic force problems are circular motion, and the whole optics unit runs on wave ideas introduced in Physics 1. Most schools sequence the two, and this site numbers the Physics 2 units 9 to 15 for that reason. You can practice Physics 2 topics here without having used the Physics 1 side, but if a diagnostic keeps flagging energy or vector errors, the Physics 1 units are the fastest way to find the underlying gap.
