Parametric Functions Modeling Planar Motion

Unit 4 is not assessed on the AP exam; schools include it based on local requirements, and this topic is the bridge from parametric curves to real motion. When (x(t), y(t)) is a particle's position, the curve is only the trail: direction of travel, turnarounds, and speed all live in the two coordinate functions, and each one has a single job. The x-component alone decides left versus right; the y-component alone decides up versus down.

The mistakes are jurisdiction mistakes: letting y's decrease vote on horizontal motion, declaring the particle stopped at the top of its arc when only the vertical component paused, and placing a turnaround where a component returns to an old value instead of where it actually reverses. The lesson drills the one-component-one-question discipline.
