Give, Take, Balance
An ionic bond is not a compromise. Nobody shares. The metal hands over its outer electrons and the nonmetal takes them, and both walk away with a full outer shell. What is left are two ions of opposite charge — and from that point on a single rule writes the formula: the positive total must cancel the negative total, exactly.
